Driving on the left downunder

Hello everybody! How ya going mom?
Its been a crazy week. I got transferred to Somerset. My companion and I thought we would both stay so it was a pretty big surprise. I got to the area last night. It reminds me more of home. Its very rural. We live in a tiny town called Laidley. It’s a beautiful area, lots of open space and trees, unlike my last area. We also have a full time car, and president assigned me as the driver. That worries me a little ha ha. I drove on the wrong side of the road this morning for about thirty seconds when I realized there was a car coming straight for me in my lane. I also climbed in the wrong side of the car and attempted to drive from the passenger seat this morning.
My new companion is Elder Ormond from Wellington, NZ. He is Maori. This is his last transfer so I am "killing him off". I am excited to learn a new area and meet new people. So far it seems that things will be quite different from what I am used to.
I finally got the granola you sent me (or as they call it here, muesli). I love it! Especially since all the cereal here is either crap or really expensive. Thank you heaps for that, you're the best!
I saw my first kangaroos on the way to our house. I saw two real live dead kangaroos on the side of the road! The library here is a trailer because the building flooded and we use ipads to email so im not sure if I’ll be able to upload pictures for a while. I'll make sure to take plenty in the new area though.
The first night here was freezing! I slept in my sweats and my beanie and wool socks and four blankets and I woke up freezing cold at like four in the morning. I had kicked of a couple of my blankets in the middle of the night so that didn't help. Is it alright if I buy some long johns or something next week? There’s not really a place to go clothes shopping here but we'll go to Toowoomba on p day Tuesday next week. P day is on Tuesday instead of Monday next week because Monday is the queen's birthday and a public holiday so president wants us to proselyte since people will be home. I am wishing I kept more of my wool socks
I also found out last night that my new district leader went to Middleton high school. He graduated in 2010, so I don’t know who he is but we know a lot of the same people. It’s a small world, aye.
I'm afraid next time we speak I will probably have a New Zealand accent rather than an Australian accent.
I love the work. I love the studies! We study for two hours every day and I study a little extra just for fun before bed time. I love the scriptures so much. In my studies it has caused me to think about something. I just finished reading the Doctrine and Covenants and section 137 ( I think. It’s the one where Joseph Smith sees his family and others in the celestial kingdom, including Alvin, his elder brother who died young) caused me to do some thinking. I was thinking that the Lord doesn’t really need me to be a missionary does he? If He wanted to he could do it another way. But this is the way He has commanded it. I think that we need us to be missionaries more than He needs us to be missionaries . Or, rather, I need me to be a missionary more than He needs me to. I have learned so far with being a missionary what obedience is all about, how to recognize and act on promptings from the Spirit, and that there is nothing more fulfilling than serving my fellowmen and the Lord. I don’t know if I would have learned what I know now if I hadn’t decided to serve. And I am still just in the middle of my full time service.
I love you very much. Have a great week everybody! I love you all! Thank you for your letters and the sweet drawings!
Love Elder Thieme
